Review: Facebook Notifications Desktop App

by Ricky Melgares on September 9, 2009

Facebook’s new desktop application for the Mac is pretty slick. Rather than receiving any Facebook notifications via email, the new Facebook app displays new notifications via a Facebook icon in your menu bar. This avoids the polling approach that most people take when it comes to checking their Facebook page or email for any new notifications (yay for an interrupt driven approach!).

The new app even gives you a way to set your status without using a browser, accessible through the icon in your menu bar or by using the keyboard shortcut. How cool is that?!

Very cool! I rarely use Facebook anymore except for notifications and occasional-stalking-of-people-from-high-school (I use the Twitter app for automatic status updates), and this will let me use it even less.
